2004 - 2006

Worked with 6 local hospitals to invest $9 million in stronger charity care policies for uninsured patients.

2007

Secured access to free prenatal care for hundreds of uninsured pregnant women in Story County by initiating a partnership with Broadlawns Medical Center, Free Clinics of Iowa, and Des Moines University.

2012

Helped secure passage of the "Kathleen Brown bill" in the Iowa State Legislature, ensuring our state's in-home daycare providers are paid promptly and accurately.

2012 - 2017

Helped secure passage of state legislation for mental health funding and service reform through hundreds of conversations between citizens and state lawmakers.

2014

Brought the first Federally Qualified Health Clinic (FQHC) to Story County, now providing care to thousands of low-income and underserved residents of Ames and surrounding areas.

2016 - 2021

Led Polk County, City of Des Moines, & Broadlawns Hospital to provide youth-centered mental health crisis services, supporting hundreds of kids and 4,500+ adult and youth 911-mental health calls with a non-law enforcement response.

2019

Went door to door to pass a local option one-cent sales tax by 70% to provide $400,000 annually for children's mental health services in Des Moines. We saved hundreds of Iowans from bankruptcy through expanded charity care agreements reached with six major Central Iowa hospitals.

2022

Secured $1.8 million for mental health professional scholarship program in Polk County.
