Project IOWA

Des Moines Cluster

Purpose:  Develop a long-term sustained program to train unemployed and underemployed central Iowans with skills necessary to advance to better-paying jobs with full benefits.

Current Efforts
  • Meeting with central Iowa employers, educational institutions, government agencies, service agencies and community organizations to explore existing job training programs and current and projected occupational needs.
  • Seeking a grant to hire a full-time community organizer to work with unemployed and underemployed central Iowans who seek career-track, living-wage, full-benefit jobs, but lack the necessary skills.
Successes:
Central Iowa Works Funding Collaborative has granted $25,000 jointly to AMOS and to Iowans for
Social and Economic Development (ISED).  The funds will be used to study how faith-based groups
can become partners in the work force development system.
